Public transport operators to handle lost & found properties

Public Transport Operators To Administer Lost And Found Properties

With effect from 1 January 2007, the public bus and taxi companies, namely, SBS Transit Ltd, SMRT Buses Ltd, Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd, Yellow-Top Cab Pte Ltd, CityCab Pte Ltd, SMRT Taxis Pte Ltd, Trans-Cab Services Pte Ltd, Smart Automobile Pte Ltd and Premier Taxis Pte Ltd, will handle all properties found in their vehicles and handle all reports on lost and found properties made by their customers and drivers.
Drivers shall deposit all property found directly with their respective companies.
At the same time, LTA shall cease to receive properties found, or handle reports on properties lost and found, in the said companies' vehicles. It will only handle reports of lost and found properties in vehicles that do not belong to the companies mentioned above.
The move transfers an integral aspect of customer service, currently under the purview of LTA, directly within the control of the respective transport companies and allows the companies to be more responsive to the needs of their customers. The companies will trace and return the properties found to the rightful owners.
If the owners are not traceable, or the properties not claimed, after three months, the companies may dispose of such properties through a public auction or in such other manner as may be approved by the Registrar. These other measures may include donating the properties to charitable organisations or donating the proceeds of any public auction to charitable organisations.
This move also makes the lost and found procedure for properties on public buses and taxis consistent with the procedures for lost and found properties on the Rapid Transit Systems, whereby the respective operators handle lost and found properties.
Passengers are advised to report any incident of lost and found properties to the relevant companies at the following addresses:
