ENJOYING Wireless@SG
About
Wireless@SG
Wireless@SG is the Government¡¯s wireless
broadband programme that aims to extend broadband access beyond the
homes, offices and schools, to public places with high human traffic
such as the Central Business District, downtown shopping belts like
Orchard Road, and HDB Town Centres. Come December 2006, users will
be able to enjoy free wireless connectivity at access speeds of up
to 512Kbps for not one, not two but three years at selected hotspots
for a start. Network coverage will be made available progressively

The Wireless@SG Network Operators
In October 2006, IDA accepted the
proposals from three operators to kick-start the nation¡¯s
progressive deployment of Wireless@SG by September 2007. They are:

How to Register for
Wireless@SG
To start enjoying free access to
Wireless@SG, users can sign up with any of the three Wireless@SG
operators from 1 December onwards. All residents and visitors to
Singapore can sign up for a Wireless@SG account. Subscribers can
sign up with any operator to access all the hotspots in Wireless@SG.
There are various ways users can register for basic services.
Online account application
Users with access to the Internet can
log onto any of the three operators¡¯ websites and complete an online
registration form. Alternatively, they can click on the ¡®New User
Sign Up¡¯ button found on the Wireless@SG log-in page when they
select the Wireless@SG network at the hotspots. The account will be
activated immediately and a password sent to them via SMS.
Customer Service Centres
Those without mobile phones or online
access can visit any of the operators¡¯ customer service centres to
register and collect their passwords. Users can also check with
their operator of choice for other registration methods.
Getting Connected to the Wireless@SG
Network
With Wireless@SG, the number of public Wi-Fi
hotspots will grow more than five-fold from the current 900 to about
5,000 hotspots by September 2007. With a registered Wireless@SGaccount,
all you need to connect to the Wireless@SG network, is a Wi-Fi
enabled device such as a laptop computer or a PDA and a web browser.
1. Scan for the network SSID ¡°Wireless@SG¡±.
2. Select and connect to the ¡°Wireless@SG¡± network.
3. Launch the Internet Browser of your choice and
you will be greeted with the Wireless@SG Login Page powered by one
of the Wireless@SG operators.
4. If you are a new subscriber, just follow the
instructions on the screen and key in details such as:
- Name
- I/C / Passport
Number
- Mobile Number
- User ID
- Verification
Code (text image)
5. Upon submission of the registration form, you
will receive your password via SMS. You can then proceed to login
using your User ID and Password.
6. If you are an existing subscriber, just enter
your User ID and Password.

Surfing Safely
When online, remember to take note of the following:
1. Install and activate
- Virtual Private
Network (VPN) or other encryption mechanisms
- Personal
firewall; and
- Anti-virus
software with the latest signature files
2. Avoid computer-to-computer wireless networking
3. With these precautions, you can now be sure that
