American folk music icon Judy Collins will
perform in Singapore for the first time ever on May 26, 2006 at The
Esplanade Concert Hall. |
Judy Collins is a living legend. Her musical
influence has spread over decades and her vocal interpretations have
inspired millions. |
From her participation in the 1964 Freedom
marches in Mississippi ("Hey Nellie Nellie") to her political activism
during the Vietnam War (Dylan's Masters Of War"), to the leadership role
she has played on the forefront of women's issues ("Bread And Roses"),
to her recent book ¡°Sanity & Grace¡± and her role as UNICEF Special
Representative for the Arts, Judy Collins has always fought the good
fight and remained vibrant as an artist. |
At 13, She made her public debut performing
Mozart's "Concerto for Two Pianos" but it was the music of such artists
as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, as well as the traditional songs of
the folk revival, that sparked Judy Collins' love of lyrics. She soon
moved away from the classical piano and began her lifelong love with the
guitar. |
In 1961 Judy Collins released her first
album, A Maid of Constant Sorrow which began a thirty-five year
association with Jac Holzman & Elektra records. |
Her 1966 release ¡°Both Sides Now¡± from her
acclaimed album ¡°Wildflowers¡± earned her the first of many Grammy
nominations and is now enshrined in the Grammy¡¯s Hall of Fame. |
She even inspired one of the biggest songs
of the 1970¡¯s when Stephen Stills penned the Crosby, Stills & Nash hit
¡°Suite Judy Blue Eyes¡± in her honor. |
In 1972 she released the renowned collection
¡°Colors of the Day¡± which has remained one of the top 50 catalogue
albums for the past 30 years. A favorite of Bill & Hillary Clinton, it
was Judy¡¯s version of ¡°Chelsea Morning¡± that inspired the naming of
their daughter Chelsea. |
In 1975 Judy won the Grammy for song of the
year for "Send in the Clowns," a ballad written by Stephen Sondheim for
the Broadway musical "A Little Night Music." |
Judy's recent book, ¡°Sanity and Grace¡± is a
deeply moving memoir, focusing on the loss of her only son and the
healing process following the tragedy. |
Also newly available is ¡°Judy Collins sings
Leonard Cohen¡±. Judy¡¯s tribute to Cohen includes 3 new recordings, as
well as 11 classic Collins/Cohen collaborations. Judy Collins continues
to create music of hope and healing that lights up the world and speaks.
