In remembrance of the male vocalist, the
late Tan Ngiang Kaw (陈仰厚), whose virtuosity and versatility won over the
hearts of many music audiences and critics in Singapore and beyond, his
siblings ¨C all of whom are vocal performers and tutors themselves, will
be organising a special concert, "Remembrance Concert of Tan Ngiang Kaw"
(¡°教我如何不想他 ¨C 纪念陈仰厚慈善音乐晚会¡±) on Tuesday, 29 August 2006 at 8pm at the
Victoria Concert Hall. |
Mr Sam Tan, Member of Parliament for Tanjong
Pagar GRC, will grace the event as the Guest-of-Honour. |
This concert will present an evening of
popular Chinese art songs, folk melodies and arias for vocal music
lovers. |
It features a glittering cast of illustrious
vocalists and three established homegrown chorus, including members of
the Tan family - Ngian Hua; Ngian Hong; Wang Cheng and Wan Lee; Prof
Zhao Deng Ying (赵登营教授), guest performer and a good friend of the late Mr
Tan who hails from China¡¯s Central Conservatory of Music (中央音乐学院); SOKA
Chorus; Eastern Arts Male Chorus and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts¡¯ (NAFA)
Chamber Chorus. |
A highlight of the evening will be a
performance by two Year 3 NAFA Music students ¨C Li Yang (李洋; soprano)
and Wang Dixia (王迪霞; mezzo-soprano), who are coached by renowned
vocalist and NAFA vocal tutor Nancy Yuen. They will delight the audience
with their rendition of Ah Guarda Sorella, a duet from Act 1 of ¡°Cosi
fan tutte¡± by Mozart. |
Tickets for this concert are priced at $20
each (Hotline: 9169 9333 / 8163 3386). The net proceeds of this event
will benefit the NAFA Scholarship Fund for setting up two entrance
awards for new NAFA vocal students. |
The Tan family hopes to sustain these awards
and continue to support the training of aspiring NAFA music talents by
staging a similar concert on a biennial basis. |
