Kidnappers Arrested In Police Raid

At 6.35pm yesterday (14 Mar 2006), Police stormed a warehouse and rescued from within two Indonesian men, aged 35 and 53. Police received information on 13 March 2006 that the two men had been kidnapped from their hotel on 10 March 2006.
During the raid, four suspected kidnappers, who were Singaporean males aged between 36 and 51, were arrested and a sum of more than S$10,000/- was seized.
On 7 March 2006 , the two victims had arrived in Singapore to meet one of the suspected kidnappers. The victims checked into a hotel in the Orchard Road area.
On 10 March 2006 , the suspect brought along six other men to meet the victims outside their hotel. A dispute ensued. The suspect alleged that one of the victims owed him some money and demanded repayment. The victims were then told to return to their hotel rooms to await further instructions.
At noon on 10 March, the two victims were made to check-out of their hotel and were brought away by four of the suspects. They were brought by the suspects to a warehouse in Kaki Bukit and told to transfer a sum of money to the suspect. The two victims called their families in Indonesia to raise the sum.
On Saturday 11 March 06, the two victims were moved to a hotel in Changi Road . From then till 14 March 06, they were watched over by the suspected kidnappers.
Police were alerted by the family of one of the victims on 13 March 06 and an operation was immediately mounted by the Criminal Investigation Department and the Police Intelligence Department.
The four suspects will be charged in Court on 16 March 2006 , with Kidnapping for ransom under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act. If found guilty, they may face life imprisonment and caning, or the death penalty.
Police are looking into the involvement of the other possible accomplices.
