Record number of fashion
students to graduate from NAFA this year |
¡¡ |
|
A total of 77 students will be showcasing
their graduation collections in a spectacular fashion show at the
Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) on 18 May 2006. |
Comprising 48 students from the Diploma in
Fashion Design programme and 29 students from the Diploma in Fashion
Merchandising & Marketing programme, this is the largest cohort to
graduate from NAFA¡¯s School of Fashion Studies (SFS) since its
establishment in 1986. |
For the graduation show on 18 May, Fashion
Design students will present individual collections of five outfits
each, with inspirations running the gamut from Greek mythology to
Chinese art. |
|
For instance, 2005¡¯s Asian Young Designers
Contest 2nd runner-up, Ju Bo layers printed sheer and opaque fabrics to
produce his collection based on the traditional art of Chinese
shadow-play, while Max Tan Shu Lin retells Grecian folklore with a
modern, sinister twist in his dramatic collection. |
Students from the Fashion Merchandising &
Marketing specialisation will put up seven group collections on the
catwalk, as well as an exhibition of their designs plus branding,
marketing and sales strategies in Gallery 3. |
|
Look out for wearable collections inspired
by legendary movie icon Marilyn Monroe, Scandinavian chic and gothic
punk! |
Upon graduation from the diploma course, the
students can look forward to furthering their studies with NAFA by
enrolling in one of the four new honours degree programmes, conducted in
collaboration with the University of Huddersfield, UK. |
Says Mr William Teo, Head (SFS): ¡°With our
four new Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree programmes in Fashion Design,
Textiles, Technology and Marketing, our diploma graduates are now able
to pursue their own design specialisations. This unique programme allows
students to experience campus life in the UK, through a one-month
student attachment, which also allows students to visit international
trade and fashion shows in Paris, the fashion capital of the world.¡± |
