A collection of furniture
prototypes |
17 每 26 Feb 2006 |
|
What would you create within a 500x500x500mm
space? This challenge was posed to 14 Furniture Design major students
from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts* (NAFA) Interior Design diploma
programme. |
See the results of their research, analysis
and creativity in after2 每 magnificent 7X2, an exhibition of original,
full-scale furniture prototypes, to be held at the NAFA Gallery 1 from
17 每 26 February 2006. |
All the pieces are conceptualised, designed and
produced on-campus by the students in NAFA*s interior design workshop. |
500 x 500 x 500 |
The students were given a strict design
brief to generate furniture design ideas that would fit into a
500x500x500mm space. This encouraged them to take into account the
physical and emotional constraints posed by our contemporary environment
before designing a piece of furniture. |
Besides the volumetric challenge, the students
needed to consider three different manufacturing processes 每 the use of
materials; the interpretation of scale, proportion and ergonomics; and the
articulation of these functional values into form, detail and emotional
considerations. |
