The NS Portal, a one-stop unified gateway
for NSmen from the Singapore Armed Forces, the Singapore Police Force
and the Singapore Civil Defence Force, was launched by the Minister for
Defence Teo Chee Hean, and the Senior Minister of State for Law & Home
Affairs Assoc Prof Ho Peng Kee, at The Regent Singapore today (6 Nov
2006). |
Developed in
partnership with NCS Pte Ltd, the
NS Portal will provide our 300,000 MINDEF/SAF NSmen and 75,000 Home
Team NSmen with a suite of NS-related online services. |
NSmen will also
get to enjoy lifestyle benefits through exclusive online promotions by
participating merchants. The portal enables NSmen to be part of a
vibrant online community, where they can share their NS experiences or
simply keep in touch with their NS friends. |
The NS Portal
provides information and services conveniently to our NSmen, promotes
camaraderie and helps contribute to a positive NS experience. |
Factsheet: NS Portal- A Single Portal for
the NS Community in Singapore |
The NS Portal, developed in partnership with
NCS PTE LTD, exploits advances in digital media to deliver a wider range
of NS-related services to our NSmen. |
From November 06, members of the NS
community from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), the Singapore Police
Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will be able to
conduct their NS-related e-Services via this new portal. |
The single portal serves to bring the three
NS communities closer together. Besides a new website, there is also a
NS e-Services Centre where any NSmen can call for enquiries and
transactions. The NS e-Services Centre operates 24 hours a day, seven
days a week and can be reached at 1-800-eNSNSNS (1-800-3676767). |
Enhanced e-Services |
With the NS Portal, all NSmen and other
users of NS services only need to access a single portal for most of
their transactions. With the new Portal, NSmen can look forward to
improved usability and accessibility. Applications found on the new
website include: |
a) Overseas
Notification Services
b) Exit Permit Services
c) Non-ICT IPPT/RT/IPT services
d) My Group and My Alumni
e) My Unit
f) Mobile access to NS services and lifestyle benefits |
The NS portal has also introduced
personalized features such as a personal calendar, to-do-lists and
transaction history. In addition, NSmen will be able to customise their
preferred services and content to fit their individual needs. |
Overseas Notification services |
Allows NSmen to notify, amend and cancel
their overseas notification with their respective service |
Exit Permit services |
Allows NSmen to apply, renew and cancel exit
permit applications if they intend to remain overseas for 6 months or
longer. They can also check their application status and eligibility
online. |
Non-ICT IPPT/RT/IPT services |
Allows NSmen to book, amend and cancel their
IPPT dates. They can also find out their IPPT score and past results. |
Bringing NSmen Together |
A new feature, currently unique to Mindef/SAF
NSmen, is that the portal allows NSmen to interact, communicate and
network with each other through services like "MyUnit", "MyGroup" and "MyAlumni",
to foster greater cohesion and better communication before and after
In-Camp Training (ICT). |
MyUnit |
"MyUnit" allows NSmen to access their
ICT records and other useful administrative instructions that are
published on the unit website. NSmen can also download training
schedules and manuals for reference before their scheduled ICT.
Commanding officers of units can also post messages to the NSmen.
Other features in MyUnit include: |
- My Buddy Link-up - Allows NSmen
to search for their buddies and keep in contact.
- Our Photo Gallery - Allows NSmen
to view pictures taken during their NS training.
- Our Reflections - Allows NSmen
to share their NS experiences.
- Our Calendar - Allows NSmen to
view their upcoming NS activities.
- Forums - Allows NSmen to discuss
and share ideas with each other.
|
MyGroup and MyAlumni |
NSmen from different units can create
their own groups based on common interests. These could include
having graduated from the same school, being in the same training
cohort, or common hobbies. All features that are available in "MyUnit"
are also available on "MyGroup" and "MyAlumni". |
Following the results of this trial by
MINDEF/SAF, the Home Team will assess whether these and other new
e-services are useful for the Home Team NSmen. |
Mobile access to NS services and
lifestyle benefits |
Services are progressively being made
available via mobile phone. There are currently 18 services that
can be accessed via the mobile phone. New services available in
the coming launch include exit permit applications and notice of
BMT-postings. Information available via vodcast can also be
downloaded. Services under development include Overseas
Notification and IPPT services. NS news will eventually be made
accessible via mobile devices. All these new mobile services will
be made available in the coming months. |
Mobicon is a mobile privilege card
that can be downloaded from the NS Portal by registered users into
their mobile phones. This qualifies them for benefits and
exclusive promotions at participating merchants. |
