Traffic Arrangements for Thaipusam Festival 2006

10th February 2006 at 6 pm (Friday) to 12th February 2006 at 2 am (Sunday)

The Thaipusam Festival 2006 will be held on Saturday, 11 February 2006.
There will be a religious foot procession comprising about 20,000 devotees carrying kavadis and their supporters between 12 midnight on Friday, 10th February 2006 and 12 midnight, on Saturday, 11th February 2006.
They will proceed on foot from Sri Sinivasa Perumal Temple at Serangoon Road towards Sri Thandayuthapani Temple at Tank Road via Serangoon Road, Selegie Road, Orchard Road, Penang Road, Clemenceau Ave and Tank Road.
Annex A highlights the procession route.
In conjunction with this celebration, there will be a motorized chariot procession on 10th February 2006 between 5 am and 8 am from Sri Thandayuthapani Temple to Pullayer Temple at Keong Saik Road.
The same motorised chariot procession will later travel back to Sri Thandayuthapani Temple at Tank Road between 6 pm and midnight on the same day.
To facilitate the traffic arrangements for this event, the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic:
Phase I (on Friday, 10th February 2006 at 6 pm to Sunday, 12th February 2006 at 2 am)
a) Petain Road ( between Sturdee Rd and Serangoon Road)
Phase II (on Friday, 10th February 2006 at 7 pm to Sunday, 12th February 2006 at 7 pm)
a) Tank Road.
Phase III (on Friday, 10th February 2006 at 11 pm to Sunday, 12th February 2006 at 2 am)

a) Clemenceau Avenue between River Valley Road and Penang Road (the side of the road leading from River Valley Road towards Penang Road).

b) Veerasamy Road between Kampong Kapor Road and Serangoon Road

The diversion scheme for public bus services affected by the closure of Tank Road and Clemenceau Ave is reflected in Annex B.
Motorists are advised to avoid the route of the religious processions as well as the peripheral roads leading to the affected areas.
The Hindu Endowment Board, who is the organizer of the event, has engaged marshals to assist in traffic management at minor road intersections along Serangoon Road when the procession commence.
Motorists are advised to comply with their directions. Police and auxillary police officers will be deployed at all other affected major road junctions to regulate traffic and assist motorists throughout the event.
The public may call the organiser¨s Hotline at 62985771 (Perumal Temple) or 67379393 (Sri Thanayuthapani Temple) to enquire about the event or the road closure.
Those who intend to fetch relatives at the end of the procession are advised not to wait along Clemenceau Ave and River Valley Road. Instead, they should wait at the car park along River Valley Rd next to River Valley Building.
Motorists intending to proceed towards the city area from the northern, eastern and western parts of the island are advised to use the following alternative routes:

a) Northern Part - via CTE/Bukit Timah Rd and Ophir Rd

b) Eastern Part - via ECP/Nicoll Highway/PIE

c) Western Part - via AYE/Jalan Bukit Merah/Keppel Rd

Parking restrictions along the procession route, the temple¨s vicinity and the peripheral roads will be strictly enforced. Vehicles found illegally parked and those causing obstruction will be towed.
