Singapore hosts World Cyber Games 2005 Grand Final

The Grand Final of the world's largest PC and video game festival, World Cyber Games 2005, will take place at Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Hall from 16 - 20 Nov 2005.
Singapore is host city to 67 participating countries from which over 700 players will be selected to advance to the Grand Final where they will compete for the gold medal. Some 300 journalists from all over the world are expected to cover the five-day event.
While in Singapore, the participants will be staying at the Costa Sands Resort (Downtown East).
World Cyber Games has been held annually since 2000. Last year, 642 participants from 63 countries participated in WCG 2004 in San Francisco, USA.
Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony on 16 Nov 2005 will start officially with a entrance of VIPs and MCs, followed by the march of 67 national teams who were advanced from their national preliminaries.
When the representative of WCG 2005 Grand Final Host City, Singapore announces the opening of WCG 2005 Grand Final, the torch will be lighted and the WCG flag will be raised. The players and referees will take the oath of fair play in front of the spectators.
Mr. Jong-Yon Yun, the co-Chairman of WCGC and Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth & Sports, will offer welcome remarks at the opening ceremony.

The festival also hosts a conference and a Mobile Tournament. The Mobile Tournament, the first mobile tournament in WCG event history, is an event tournament in the WCG 2005 Grand Final in which 44 players from 11 countries will compete for US$12,000 and the position of best gamer. The tournament will be run as single full league (stand alone).
Singaporeans can experience the excitement of the games through daily one-hour broadcasts on MediaCorp TV Channel U and TV Mobile. The global organiser of the World Cyber Games 2005, International Cyber Marketing, Inc. (ICM) has appointed MediaCorp TV Singapore to be the host broadcaster of the event.
Said Mr Hank Jeong, CEO of ICM: ¡°We are very excited that MediaCorp TV, one of the major media outlets in Singapore, is the official host broadcaster of WCG 2005 Grand Final. As the world¡¯s largest computer and video game festival, WCG has put in various efforts to promote the game as one where it is as fun for spectators to watch as it is for the gamers to play. The partnership with MediaCorp TV will enable us to provide the best WCG contents to the general public, as well as to gaming fans too.¡±

The next World Cyber Games will be held in MOnza, Italy in 2006.
