New Directions Music Festival 2005 celebrates New Music with award-winning contemporary artists from Asia Pacific
From world music to ambient sounds, percussion to electronic and experimental music, LASALLE-SIA College of the Art¡¯s New Directions Music Festival 2005 will showcase a host of innovative artists from the Asia Pacific region who are at the forefront of their music disciplines all under one roof.
In its second year, New Directions Music Festival is a celebration of contemporary music at its best. This year¡¯s festival will see a combination of Jazz, Classical Music, Popular Music and World Music, reflecting the new Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Music programmes at LASALLE-SIA which have been developed by LASALLE-SIA and validated by the Open University, UK.
The festival¡¯s guest artists include Alex Dea (World Music, Composition) from Indonesia, Sophie Moleta (Song Writing) from New Zealand, Lucky Oceans (Pedal Steel Guitar) and Gary France (Percussion) from Australia and Singapore¡¯s George Chua (Laptop).
The format of the festival¡¯s performances and workshops by these artists from the region closely reflect the integrative aims of LASALLE-SIA¡¯s Music programme.
It will provide a platform for the artists to present their distinctive music voices ¨C in the opening concert Sampler, and five nights devoted to each artist¡¯s work ¨C as well as the opportunity to collaborate during the week with LASALLE-SIA¡¯s staff, students and the public culminating in a Collaborations performance on the final night.
The festival will also provide an intense forum for the discussion of New Directions Music in the international music scene through a series of lectures and workshops aimed at creative young musicians and composers; as well as the Singapore community.
