The School Management Committee
(SMC) of Nan Chiau High School (affiliated to the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan)
has selected Mr Ong Kian Choon as the candidate to be the Principal of Nan
Chiau High School.

Mr Ong is currently serving as
Principal of Fuhua Secondary School. He will be available for his new
appointment at the end of 2004, as part of the rotation process of Principals,
having served at Fuhua Secondary School for five years.
|
The SMC has proposed that Mr Ong
be appointed as Principal of Nan Chiau High School at the end of 2004. The
Ministry of Education has approved this appointment.
|
In the interim period, the
Ministry has, in consultation with the SMC, decided to appoint Mr Yeo Kuerk
Heng as Principal of Nan Chiau High School with effect from 29 May 2004.
At the end of 2004, Mr Yeo, currently Vice-Principal of Siglap Secondary
School, will be appointed as Principal of another school.

The Ministry is confident that
under the leadership of Mr Yeo Kuerk Heng till the end of the year, and
subsequently Mr Ong Kian Choon, Nan Chiau High will continue on the path to
excellence, in both the academic and character development of its students.

Background on the Principals
|
Mr Ong, 55 years old, has served
in the Education Service for 28 years. He first joined the Service in
1976 as a teacher at Catholic Junior College. Prior to his appointment as
Principal, Mr Ong was Vice-Principal of Ghim Moh Secondary School and Outram
Secondary School. He also served in the Curriculum Planning &
Development Division of MOE HQ. In 1994, Mr Ong was appointed as
Principal of Chung Cheng High School (Branch) for about five years before he
was rotated to head Fuhua Secondary School in 1999.

Mr Yeo, 46 years old, has served
in the Education Service for 21 years. He first joined the Service in
1983 as a teacher at Tanjong Katong Secondary School. He was appointed
as Vice-Principal of Chung Cheng High (Main) in 1999. After attending
the Ministry’s Leaders in Education Programme (LEP) in 2001, he was rotated
to Siglap Secondary School as Vice-Principal for exposure and to prepare him
for Principal appointment at the end of 2004.

The principal of Nan Chiau High
School in Sengkang has resigned after admitting he had hit a student with a
book on 15 Apr 2004. The Ministry of Education has accepted his offer to
resign as principal of the school. The Sec 2 girl was one of five called up by
the principal. A police report was made by the god-sister of one of the
