New York based trumpeter Marcus
Printup is arriving in Singapore on 29 May 2004. He will be performing in
Jazz @ Southbridge from 1 - 5 Jun 2004.
|
Marcus will be playing tracks
from his latest CD, The New Boogaloo, which will be available for sale
(limited stock).
|
Everyone who has heard Marcus Printup
perform knows that he plays with remarkable verve and soul. At the age of 37,
Printup exemplifies how talent, hard work and savvy musicianship combine to
unfold an extraordinary career.
|
A member of the Lincoln Center
Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis for eleven years, Printup has not only
recorded with Marsalis, but also with other jazz heavyweights like Marcus
Roberts, Dianne Reeves, Cyrus Chestnut, and Eric Reed.
|
To date, Marcus has four albums
under his belt, Song for Beautiful Woman, Nocturnal Traces, Unveiled and The
New Boogaloo. He attended Georgia State and the University of North Florida
before being discovered by and taken under
the wing of Marcus Roberts in 1991.
|
Thereafter he was introduced to
Marsalis and joined the LCJO in 1993. He also appeared in the motion picture
"Playing by Heart" starring Angelina Jolie, Sean Connery and Julian
Anderson.
|
With his vast background in jazz,
Printup is proud to present fresh music rich in the language of the great jazz
heroes, but infused with his own signature of a soul-stirring Gospel strength,
mixed with the force of Parliament Funkadelic. This very individual
interpretation of jazz resounds with the fire-filled echoes of the Black
Baptist Church he attended with his family during his youth in Conyers,
Georgia.
