The Sunday Times gets a new look from today

First edition: 28 Sep 2003 Issue

The Sunday Times gets a totally new look from today! This is to differentiate the Sunday edition from the weekday and Saturday editions of The Straits Times - the main English daily here.

The new look was introduced to 700 of the paper's advertisers at a party in Zouk on 18 Sep 2003. Gone are the Home, World and Asia separate sections which have been amalgamated into the new News section. Also, Sunday Life! has been replaced with a new LifeStyle section.

The entire newspaper now sports a cleaner and neater look. This impression comes about mainly because the paper now sports more white-space between columns. There are also wider margins at the edges of the paper, particularly at the top where the first 5 cm from the top of each page is clear of print, except for an unobtrusive section header. Also, the paper is in full-colour.

At the unveiling of the new look for The Sunday Times, Straits Times Editor Han Fook Kwang was reported to have said he hopes it will help raise circulation from the current 392,000 and increase the readership of 1.3 million.

In its welcome message in this first edition of the new-look paper, The Sunday Times team says it wants "to liven up your Sunday read with new content more in tune with your Sunday activities and a bolder, more colourful design".

That's why they have lined up the following goodies for their readers:

Sweat: Sports section

Gizmos: latest gadgets

Click: handy news and useful tips

Gen-Y: youngsters' space

Talk: forum

With its more colourful content, the new-look The Sunday Times will certainly be a hit with its readers - young or old.
