PSLE 2003 Results

Pupils are collecting their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results from their respective primary schools today after 1200 hours.

A total of 51,327 Primary 6 pupils sat for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) this year, a decrease of 1,822 (or 3.4%) over the 2002 Primary 6 cohort. There were 45,195 pupils from the EM1 and EM2 courses and 6,132 from the EM3 course.

As in past examinations, pupils in the EM1 and EM2 courses sat for English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue; pupils in the EM3 course sat for Foundation English, Foundation Mathematics and Basic Mother Tongue.

In all, 49,867 pupils (or 97.2%) have been assessed as suitable to proceed to secondary school. Of these students, 62.2% are eligible for the Special or Express course and 34.9% for the Normal (Academic) or Normal (Technical) course.

There are 1,460 pupils (or 2.8%) who are assessed to be not yet ready for secondary school in 2004 or more suited for vocational training. Of these, 1,217 will be given another year in Primary 6 to consolidate their basic language and mathematics skills. The remaining 243 who are overaged will be enrolled in basic vocational training courses.

Eligible pupils will receive their option forms to select secondary schools from their respective primary schools today. Parents are reminded to submit the completed option forms to their children's primary schools, between 22 Nov 2003 and 27 Nov 2003 from 9am to 3pm (including Saturday, but excluding Sunday and public holiday).

The Secondary One posting results will be released on 22 Dec 2003. Pupils are to collect their results through their primary schools on 22 Dec 2003, and report to their posted secondary schools on 23 Dec 2003.
