Singapore Fashion Festival 2003

21 Mar - 6 Apr 2003

The Singapore Fashion Festival, Asia's first consumer-focused fashion event, takes place from 21 March to 6 April 2003. The festival, which aims to establish Singapore as a regional fashion retail hub, features 35 events this year, an increase of 15 over last year's festival which attracted 60,000 visitors. In 2001, there were a total of 16 events and 16,000 visitors.

Festival organiser M.S. Twilight Pte Ltd says the festival costs about S$2.5 million to organise. A key portion of this amount is subsidised by Mercedez-Benz. The other sponsor is Singapore Tourism Board.

Core events are:

From Russia With Luxe - Asia's introduction to Russian fashion czar Valentin Yudashkin

Mercedez-Benz Asia Fashion Week - Mercedez-Benz's important new role in Asian fashion

The Local Hero's Return - Singaporean designer Andrew Gn's first show on homeground

Sense & Sensuality - La Perla's first pret-a-porter in Singapore

International designer labels participating in this year's festival are:

Valentin Yudashkin, Andrew Gn, Zac Posen, Anna Sui, Chloé, Leonard, Kenzo, Etro, Biyan, Vera Wang, See by Chloé, La Perla, Scavia, Kavita Bhartia, Ranna Gill, Anamika Khanna, Madhu Jain, and Anshu Arora Sen

However, Cult French designer Azzedine Alaïa, who had a slot in the festival, has withdrawn his participation. The other participating labels are:

Topman, TopShop, Miss Selfridge, G2000, U2, U2 Woman, Warehouse, Christofle, Evnur Solid Silver and By Terry

The venue for the festival's core events is St James Power Station, a disused power station built in the 1920s. The power station is located in Keppel Road, next to the gateway to Sentosa.

Shopping centres taking part are Scotts Shopping Centre, Metro, Paragon, The Heeren, Tangs, Wisma Atria, Plaza Singapura, Pargo Bugis Junction, Jurong Point and Centrepoint.
