New Works on Paper 2003 - an exhibition by Yeo Shih Yun

Source: Rubix Cube

Talented young Singaporean artist Yeo Shih Yun will be staging an art exhibition entitled New Works on Paper 2003 at Atelier J. Lacroix from 26 Sep - 12 Nov 2003. The exhibition's opening hours are as follows: Tues-Fri 12pm to 7pm, Sat 12pm to 5pm.

Shih Yun graduated with a Business degree in Marketing from the National University of Singapore in 1998. At the age of 22, Shih Yun began her own uncharted venture into the world of art. Totally untrained in the concepts and skills of art making, her raw intrigue for creative forms and expression served as the only guide to her emerging creative vision.

Shih Yun's fascination for the abstract medium surfaced during her time at Lasalle, when she first experimented with the fusion of fine arts and contemporary design.

One of her early experimental works received acclaim as a highly commended entry for the UOB Painting of the Year competition in 1999, which spurred her to further explore fine arts and the abstract form.

After graduating from Lasalle, Shih Yun attended the one-year Post Baccalaureate Program (Painting) at the San Francisco Art Institute.

Shih Yun has exhibited in Singapore in solo and group exhibitions and her recent exhibitions include "NewFinds 2003" at MITA ARTrium. Her own works are typically executed with high-energy spontaneity using Chinese ink and brush media.

"I have chosen paper for its ‘ready-to-use’ quality as it compliments my spontaneous painting process. My drawings are abstract. My works dominantly feature bold black lines, juxtaposed with casual coloured compositions," says Shih Yun of her works.

She continues, "My constant inspirations are Robert Motherwell, Toko Shinoda, Franz Kline and Jackson Pollock."

Atelier J. Lacroix is at 24 Ann Siang Road Singapore 069704. Tel: (65) 6227 6860 Fax: (65) 6227 6896.
