St Valentine's Day Dome Readings

14 Feb 2003  1pm - 2pm

Dome Kent Ridge, University Cultural Centre, NUS

Love poetry blossoms with an assembly of celebrities reciting poems on 14 Feb 2003 at lunch hour at Dome Kent Ridge, University Cultural Centre.

This hour-long session featuring readings of love poems as befits the occasion marks the launch of a new series of readings, Dome Readings, aimed at enriching and broadening the arts and cultural events offered by the Centre for the Arts.

Professor Tommy Koh (Ambassador-at-Large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Mr S. Dhanabalan (Chairman, Temasek Holdings), Ms Claire Chiang (Director, Banyan Tree Gallery) and Ms Nuraliza Osman (Ms Singapore Universe 2002) will be joined by singer Jacintha Abisheganaden who will belt out a love song to the guitar tunes provided her father, Alex.

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan (Minister of State, Ministry of National Development) will also be in the audience listening to these words and tunes of love.

A series of one-hour sessions, Dome Readings will offer poetry, prose and drama readings by leading personalities, established writers and budding writers among NUS students as well as veteran writers among NUS staff.

It serves as a platform to showcase the literary arts, highlight current creative work in poetry, fiction and drama, and sustain the development of a discerning interest in literature – especially Singapore writing.

Dome Readings will be held twice a semester at Dome Kent Ridge located within the University Cultural Centre during lunchtime from 1-2pm. After the first session on Valentine’s Day, subsequent sessions, featuring writers and students reading their own work in the genres of poetry, fiction and drama, will be held on 15 August and 17 October 2003.
