Monday with the Editor: Singapore Web Awards

Hallo

Our Web site has been around for nearly four years. We have seen many Web sites come and go. Some of them came with a big bang and left silently. But, though we started small - with barely thirty pages - we are still around. As of today, we are 5764 pages thick. Now, that packs quite a punch!

And we aim to be around on the Internet for as long as possible. There are many other Web sites out there which share this same aim.

We have seen foreign Web sites being recognised for the efforts that went into their set-up and maintenance. The recognition comes in the form of an award. So far, there has not been an awards host for local Web sites.

That's why we have started the Singapore Web Awards to give recognition to outstanding local Web sites. We wish this event to be carried out annually.

The Singapore Web Awards offer eight categories for participation. The categories are as follows:

1.  Government

2.  Business

3.  Community

4.  Arts

5.  People

6.  Travel

7.  Education

8.  Entertainment

For each category, there is a winner. There's also an overall winner as well as an overall runner-up.

We are calling for entries from 16 Sep 2003 to 30 Nov 2003. Submission of entries can take two routes:

1. Call for entries - submission by Web sites

2. Nominations - nominations by others

We want to be transparent in the judging of the event, so we are farming out the judging process. We will invite people from outside our Web site to do the judging for us. Of course, being the host, we are obliged not to participate.

Who are eligible to enter the contest? Any Web site which primarily serves the local community. It can be the local Web site of a multi-national company (MNC), a school Web site or a personal homepage.

What matters most is that this event gives the opportunity for people to contribute, compete and connect with one another, and in the process, have fun!

More information can be found in our Singapore Web Awards section here!
