Theatre & Drama for Year-end Holidays

Presented by Act 3 International

Source: Act 3 International

What do Blue Horses have to do with classic fairy tales such as Cinderella, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel.  Plenty, if you are keen to explore the fascinating world of children’s drama and theatre.

This year-end holiday season, ACT 3 International will be staging an award-winning play for children. Blue Horses is a theatre performance that centres around the active imagination of four young people who, one lazy summer evening, invent a game “Wish Upon a Star.”  When one tells his or her story, the others will role-play to make that dream come true.

Created by Kathryn Schultz Miller, Blue Horses has been successfully staged by theatre groups all over the U.S.  Through brilliant writing, directing and performance, Blue Horses will charm audiences’ young and old alike, bringing home the ideal of childhood fantasy and true friendship.

In addition, ACT 3 Drama Academy will conduct a series of drama workshops for children from ages three to eight years. Fractured Fairy Tales are fun–filled workshops that will explore with children vocal expression, mime, movement and dramatic play.

Younger children will learn about building language and exploring the creation of fractured fairy tales. The child will narrate the story through rhymes and movements.

Games and stories will stimulate imagination and language and help develop qualities of movement, body awareness, concentration, social interaction and individual expression, coordination and balance. Activities will include dramatic play, storytelling, songs, poems and creative movements using music.

Older children from five to six years old will learn to improve on their facial expressions and body movements, which will enhance and improve body language. The children will mime a particular fairy tale (whether fractured or not) with their peers.

Movement activities will be used to develop the children’s body, object and character mime (e.g. an imaginary tug-of-war, or creating shapes and statues with their bodies). Participants will also learn role-play, characterisation, storytelling, prop making and movements with music.
