I Theatre presents Sylvia

Source: I Theatre

Sylvia - a wonderful Off-Broadway Comedy by A. R. Gurney - opens at at Alliance Française's 236-seat auditorium on 8 Aug 2003. SYLVIA is the hilarious journey of a man and his wife coming to terms with their “empty nest”… and who better to complicate their problems than a sexy, sassy stray dog who sings Cole Porter!

The play, directed by Richard Harding Gardner, marks the first co-production between I Theatre and Malaysian theatre company, Gardner & Wife.

Malaysian actress Chae Lian plays the sassy, sexy stray dog who talks, sings and quotes the classics. Opposite Chae Lian are Bridget Therese Lachica, John Faulkner and Sean Yeo.

John, a former West End actor and currently one of Singapore’s top voiceover artistes, plays Greg – the man who brings Sylvia home.

Three other parts are all played by Sean!  He plays a man, a woman, and a man pretending to be a woman… or is it the other way around?!!!  Theatre enthusiasts who saw Sean in Popcorn and Boeing Boeing can only imagine what he’ll do with these three parts!

Singer Kit Chan takes her talents backstage when she becomes “dog”-stylist to Malaysian actress Chae Lian.  “I’ve known Chae Lian for ages, ever since we studied drama together.  So when Chae Lian told me she was playing a dog in her next play, and she thought my boutiques’ clothes would be perfect, I didn’t know quite how to take it!!”, Kit grins.

Once Kit had read the play, she was convinced that SYLVIA was the perfect choice to match the comic talents of Chae Lian with the “urban chic” style of her boutiques, Flowers In The Attic and Roses In The Loft.  So, along with her business-partner Shiaw, the singer will take on the task of dressing and accessorising Chae Lian for her role.

Tickets are on sale at all SISTIC outlets. Call (65) 6348 5555 or visit their Web site at www.sistic.com. For more information on the play, visit I Theatre's Web site at www.itheatre.org
