Prudential Children First - Singapore International Festival for Children

Prudential Children First is the name of the Singapore International Festival for Children organised by Act 3. This annual Arts event, now in its 4th year, happens from 1 - 19 March 2003. It celebrates the making of quality work that has its focus on the child.

Next year will see a couple of surprises and new items added to make it different, exciting, and attractive for families and young ones.

A pre-Festival programme that starts from February 22 and lasts for a whole week will take place at the Suntec City Mall, Tropics Atrium. This weekend-to- weekend affair is filled with activities for children.   A highlight is the infamous Madame Buskerfly who will flit on stilts for many hours of “tall” stories!

For 3 glorious weeks in March, companies from Switzerland, Argentina, Canada, Britain, USA, Singapore, Australia, and Israel will perform in multiple venues in Singapore, showcasing their artistic work in this Festival. Come and watch high quality performances of drama, circus, puppetry, mask play, storytelling, music, and dance.

Theatre Beyond Words, Sharona Shapiro, Kunos Circus Theatre, Omar Alvarez Titeres, Bond Street Theatre, Trollsons, Patch Theatre, Madame Buskerfly, andACT 3 in collaboration with Theatre Centre will each showcase their brand of Children’s Theatre at this exciting Festival.

A new Dating Service

mda.gov.sg   is the Web site of the new Media Development Authority, formed by the merger of the Singapore Broadcasting Authority (SBA), the Films and Publications Department (FPD) and the Singapore Film Commission (SFC).

LegalConnect.org.sg   is a cyber platform, set up by the Ministry of Law, to keep Singaopore's overseas lawyers informed of developments in the local legal scene, gather feedback on legal reform and developments in other countries and to assist the local legal fraternity to network with those working overseas.

LawTown.gov.sg  is a new one-stop portal set up by the Ministry of Law. It provides answers to frequently asked questions on legal matters by the man on the street such as whether you need to engage a lawyer to draft your will, can you still pay your traffic fine without going to court after the offer for composition has expired, or how to apply for custody of your children.

Casewatch.com.sg  is the Web site of a new online monitoring system launched by the Supreme Court on 28 Nov 2002. It allows subscribers to be automatically alerted via e-mail whenever there is any legal action involving a specified list of companies. The information is drawn directly from the databases of the Supreme Court.

Local

Two bodies washed up on the shores of Bintan yesterday. The first body has been identified as that of First Sergeant HENG Sock Ling, 24. The second body had yet to be identified. (1)

Government revenue plummeted by S$4.3 billion to S$19.7 billion in the first nine months of 2002. This was a drop of 18 per cent from S$24 billion collected for the same period in 2001. Of the overall S$4.3 billion plunge in revenue, there was a S$3.2 billion drop in total tax revenue. The other S$1.1 billion shortfall was due to lower collection of fees and charges. (A18)

Frankfurt: The pilot of a stolen aircraft landed at Frankfurt's airport after flying for more than an hour over Germany's financial centre. He had earlier threatened to crash the plane into the tower of the European Central Bank. The random flight of the single-engined plane caused widespread panic and sparked the evacuation of people from the main railway station and several skyscrapers in the city. (1)
