Deepavali Open Day at Singapore Art Museum (SAM)

Admission to SAM is free!

Get ready for a day of fun at SAM's Deepavali  Open Day on Monday 4 Nov 2002 from 9am - 6pm. Catch a demonstration of the traditional Indian floor art rangoli, try your hands
designing one with a twist and take it back with you.

What about going on a "Drama-tic Discovery" of SAM? Explore selected works on display from SAM's permanent collection through drama and  have fun acting out the scenes depicted.

If you are game for more adventures, try out a giant walk-through kaleidoscope, mind-boggling puzzles, games and a host of other interactive
art stations!  With five different exhibitions going on in our galleries, make sure you catch them all.

Rangoli To Go!

Indian floor art, rangoli is made traditionally using materials, such as coloured rice, limestone power and flower petals. These decorative designs are made directly onto the floor at the entrance of the house as a symbol of welcome. SAM invites you to try making some with a twist - you’d actually be able to bring yours with you home. Find out how! (1pm - 4pm at Glass Hall)

A Drama-tic Discovery

The richness and the colours of the Balinese culture and landscapes inspired pioneer artists of Singapore to create works of art. Join this "drama-tic" discovery exploring selected paintings from SAM’s exhibitions through drama. Kids will get to learn about architectural design, the lifestyles and cultures of people and have fun acting out scenes depicted in selected paintings. Join education specialist and creative director JC, and drama actor and instructor Kalia in this discovery! (2pm - 3pm; 4pm - 5pm at Patron's Club - for children 4 - 12 years old)

Interactive Art Stations

Try out a giant walk-through kaleidoscope, mind boggling puzzles, games using polygonal shapes and other stations exploring perspective and symmetry. These interactive stations are specially designed in conjunction with the exhibition ART FIGURES : Mathematics in Art. Explore! (9am - 6pm outside Galleries 9 & 10)

Also, catch the following exhibitions:

Art for 22 Cents: Looking at Stamp Art

Liu Kang: Drawn From Life

Naked Perfection

Art Figures: Mathematics in Art

A Picture Paints a Thousand Words

Hop onto the free shuttle bus service from outside City Hall MRT Station and alight at their doorstep. From 12pm - 5.30pm at half-hour intervals. All public programmes are free on a first-come-first-served basis.
