Good Eats: Hokkien Mee in Upper Serangoon

Yes! Remember that man's face. It is the face of the man who has been dishing out mouth- watering Hokkien Mee nearly every day for the past twenty years to residents in Hougang and farther away. And the long queues for the food he serves has been around for umpteen years.

Try his Hokkien Mee just once and you will return as a very loyal customer for as long as you live - provided he's still around, of course.

Forget the spartan coffeeshop premises and the stall setup. It's his food that you want to savour! But, the Hokkien Mee is not exactly cheap - S$3 for a small portion. He also sells the dish at S$4 and S$5.

When you are about to tuck into the Hokkien Mee your mind may fret about the price of the dish in relation to the amount of mee in it, but all this thinking will evaporate the second your taste-buds get a sampling of the mee. We aren't kidding you.

The best proof is in the eating. Hop down to the coffeeshop at the junction of Upper Serangoon and Simon Roads and look for the man. He sometimes does not open on Saturdays, so try to turn up on a weekday if you live quite far away. Then, you won't need worry about coming away empty-handed. The coffeeshop's quite narrow so it's best to ask for a take-away.

Enjoy!

NEW WEBSITES

priceline.com.sg  is an online travel service launched on 30 May 2002. Travellers who use it can slice an average of 20 per cent, and up to 30 per cent, off regular air ticket and hotel prices. But customers cannot pick a specific airline or hotel as this will be selected by Priceline from its pool of partners - 25 airlines and more than 8,000 hotels around the world.

LoveByte.org.sg, has brief details of men and women on the market for a spouse. There is no limit to how many people they can choose, but the other party must consent before they meet. The web site is run by the Social Development Unit's Choice Match dating service.
