Registration for primary one classes in 2003

Schedule of Registration

Registration of children for admission to Primary One classes in 2003 will be carried out from Tuesday, 2 July 2002 to Wednesday, 28 August 2002. The dates for the different phases of registration are given at Annex A.

All primary and full schools will be open for registration from 0800 hours to 1100 hours and from 1430 hours to 1630 hours during the registration period.

Registration Procedures

Parents registering their children under Phase 1 are not required to register at the school as applications will be done through the older sibling in the school. The registration of a child under Phase 2A(1) to 2C Supplementary is to be done at the school of choice by the parent or by a person authorised by the parent in writing.

Age Requirement

Children born between 2 January 1996 and 1 January 1997 (both dates inclusive) may be registered for Primary One classes in 2003. Children born between 2 January 1994 and 1 January 1996 (both dates inclusive), who have not previously been registered for Primary One classes, may also be registered for admission to school in 2003.

Compulsory Education

Compulsory education will be introduced in Year 2003. This means that a Singapore citizen residing in Singapore born between 2 Jan 1996 and 1 Jan 1997 (both dates inclusive) satisfies conditions for receiving primary education and has to be so registered in the 2002 Primary 1 Registration Exercise to enter school commencing 2 Jan 2003.

There is however provision for a child who has been assessed as being not ready/suitable for Primary 1 to seek the prior permission of the Ministry to defer registration for Primary 1. A parent can make such a request by completing the relevant form (available on the internet and from the Ministry's Customer Service Centre) and forwarding it to the Ministry with the necessary supporting document(s) for consideration.

More information on compulsory education can be found at the Ministry's website at

NEW WEBSITES  is an online travel service launched on 30 May 2002. Travellers who use it can slice an average of 20 per cent, and up to 30 per cent, off regular air ticket and hotel prices. But customers cannot pick a specific airline or hotel as this will be selected by Priceline from its pool of partners - 25 airlines and more than 8,000 hotels around the world., has brief details of men and women on the market for a spouse. There is no limit to how many people they can choose, but the other party must consent before they meet. The web site is run by the Social Development Unit's Choice Match dating service.
