Mdm Kang's Kitchen Chilli Crab

Singapore's first air-conditioned bus interchange opened in Toa Payoh Central on Sunday 19 May 2002. The opening was officiated by Transport Minister YEO Cheow Tong.

The $16.5-million Toa Payoh Interchange, which is now back in its original location, is designed to be integrated with the new HDB Centre. The passenger concourse area of the interchange forms part of the new HDB Centre building - HDB Hub. It is also linked to Toa Payoh MRT Station.

The new interchange has shops on the first level as well as the second level. Anchor tenant Popular Bookstore and its sister store, CD Rama, occupies the second level.  It also boasts the largest passenger concourse among all 15 SBS Transit bus interchanges. The interchange is also equipped with additional customer-friendly features, such as colour-coded signages for ease of finding the way around the interchange.

There are 38 alighting and boarding booths in all. Automatic uni-directional sliding doors at the gates facilitate boarding and alighting activities. Some gates are also equipped with magnetic detectors which only allow doors to open when a bus calls at the bus bay for boarding.

Feeder services at the interchange have also been converted from partial to fully air-conditioned to give commuters a truly seamless air-conditioned travel experience.
