Ne-Zha by The Finger Players - Back by popular demand

Click logo to start tour

Mdm Kang's Kitchen Chilli Crab

Having received an overwhelming response to Ne-zha last July, The Finger Players will be presenting a new production of Ne-zha in May 2002 for the young and the young-at-heart. Interweaving the art of puppetry with music and dance, this Mandarin production, with English subtitles, will feature a revised script and an all-new design.

Ne-zha, in brief, tells the story of Ne-zha, a god-child who incurs the Dragon King’s wrath when he accidentally hurts the latter’s son. But in the end, he and his father, Li Jing, join forces to defeat the Dragon King and save the people. Other than the educational theme of good prevailing over evil, the story also depicts the strong bond between father and son.

Ne-zha will combine rod and hand puppetry techniques, with dance movements created by veteran choreographer, Low Ee Chiang. Hella Chan and Suven Chan from Hong Kong will design the set and lights respectively.

The production also features a strong cast with vast theatre experience and good puppet- handling capabilities, with Jo Kwek once again in the lead role of Ne-zha ¾ a role for which she won acclaim last year. The Finger Players’ members, Tan Beng Tian and Ong Kian Sin, will exchange roles this time and play Dragon King and Li Jing respectively.
