Songs 2002 Finals

Sat 30 Nov 2002  4.30pm

NYC Youth Park

Source: The Centre for the Arts, NUS

Join the organisers as they hunt for the next Stephanie Sun, Stella Ng, and Tanya Chua at SONGS 2002 Finals on 30 November at NYC Youth Park.

Finalists – tertiary students in Singapore – will sing their hearts out, displaying their songwriting skills as they fight to fulfill their dreams of becoming the next overnight sensation.

This is a great chance to listen to original songs from various genres and languages including Pop, Electronica, Alternatives, English and Mandarin, as we gear up to celebrate diverse festivals around the corner – Hari Raya Puasa and Christmas.

Winners of Sing Singapore Competition 2002 and talents from Lee Wei Song Music School – the very school that trained Stephanie Sun – will also put up riveting performances.

Established figures in the music scene, Iskandar Ismail, renowned composer, Lim Sek, Director of Music & Movement, and Anthony Png, Manager of Lee Wei Song Music School, will judge the finalists and their songs on originality, melody, composition, and lyrics.

More than just a contest, SONGS 2002 gives songwriters OPPORTUNITY – one of the most valuable commodities in the music industry.  This competition under the ExxonMobil Campus Concerts series is categorised into NUS Students Only and All Tertiary Students.

Beyond the cash prizes, the top five winning songs of each category will be considered for CD recording.  The songwriter may even be offered a contract with an established music-publishing house.  Past participants of this competition include Jack Ho, currently an artiste at Music & Movement.   Details of the cash prizes are:

  i) NUS Students Only – $1000, $700 and $400 for first, second and third prize, respectively

ii) All Tertiary Students – $1200, $900 and $600 for first, second and third prize, respectively

NYC Youth Park is in Somerset Road. Admission is free and all are welcome. General enquiries: (65) 6874 4041.
