Holding on to win a Subaru Impreza car

The term "Stayers or Quitters" took a whole new meaning last Sunday when 120 participants from all walks of life got together at Ngee Ann City in Orchard Road to try to win a new Subaru Impreza car in The Ultimate Subaru Impreza All-Wheel Drive Challenge.

The trick was for them to keep their right palm affixed onto a numbered palm-print portion of one of three Subaru Impreza sedans from 1pm on Sunday 17 Nov 2002 to 8pm on Thursday 21 Nov 2002.

All the contestants had to do was to outlast the others until there was only one person left holding onto the car. That person would be the winner.

The contestants were only allowed a five-minute break once every six hours for the duration of the five-day contest. During the break, they could take their right palm off the palm-print on the car and head for the toilets or have a meal.

In the event that there are more than one contestant left on Thursday, there will be another challenge to decide the winner.

By Tuesday, only three contestants - two middle-aged men and a young lady - were left in the race to win the Subaru Impreza. They were:

 -  Zech LEONG  (33 years old) LATEST! - Out!

 -  Karen KEE (24 years old) LATEST! - Out!

 -  Mohamad Amat  (39 years old - shown above)

It's been a tough time for the contestants for they not only could not sleep, but also had to contend with the weather elements as well. It's been a rainy last few days here at the Civic Plaza, as well as around the island.

To bring the contest to an earlier close, the organisers have changed the rules slightly - there will be no more five-minute breaks from 7am today (Wednesday)!

There's just one more day to go. Just who will be the winner of the Subaru Impreza (without COE)? It's anybody's guess right now. But, we will post the results here on Thursday, so do come back for another look.

If you can't make the trip to Ngee Ann City for a first hand look at the whole thing, don't fret because we have got pictures here for your viewing pleasure. Click HERE!

And the WINNER is: Mohamad Amat

(as at 8.30am today, Mohamad Amat was the only one left in the contest)

The Ultimate Subaru Impreza All-Wheel Drive Challenge is jointly organised by three radio stations: Class 95FM, Perfect Ten 98.7FM and Gold 90FM. MotorImage Enterprises is sponsoring the car.
