i-Mobile - new magazine for the SMS generation

I-Mobile is a new bi-monthly magazine introduced to meet the needs of the SMS generation of youngsters. Its maiden content - page upon page of operator logos, caller group graphics and ringtones - is designed to help these youngsters locate the picture or ringtone of their dreams.

To make page flipping easier, the people behind the magazine have placed the picture listings into categories, such as cartoons, animals, names and comics.

There's also a section on screensavers in which the pictures are sorted into the following groups: cartoons, animals, adorable sweet, greetings, miscellaneous, comics and happy birthday.

And they have grouped the ringtones into pop & techno,  English oldies, Japanese & Korean, Chinese pop, Cantonese rap and Chinese oldies & Hokkien.

You can download any of these graphics or ringtones into your mobile phone or send them to your friends. Just call the 1900 number at the top of the page, follow the voice instructions and pay S$1.95 per min for normal phone access or S$2.00 per min for public phone access.

If you are looking for the editorial page, you will be sorely disappointed, for there is none. There are also no articles to speak of in the 50-page magazine. It appears this magazine is nothing more than a classified ad listing neatly dressed up in a magazine suit.

However, take heart, there are two pages of SMS abbreviations and smileys that SMS users will surely not want to miss out on. Take for instance:

  SUM1   = someone

  B4N      = bye for now

  F2f        = face to face

  F2t        = free to talk

  :*           = kisses

  :-X          = kiss

  :-ozzz     = bored

  :$)          = rich

  :-Q         = smoker

  o:-)         = innocent

  :*)           =  drunk

If you are game for all these things I have mentioned, then pay S$2.80 to get a copy of their Sep-Oct 2002 issue.

PS. you get a free download of any operator logo, caller group graphic, ringtone, screensaver or picture message with every copy of the magazine - there's a card with download instructions in the magazine.
