Works For Pao Kun - Legend Alive

International Tribute to Theatre Doyen of Singapore

13 - 15 Dec 2002 Theatre Studio, Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay

1939 - 2002

Six internationally acclaimed directors will present a series of new theatre works inspired by Mr KUO Pao Kun and performed in his memory. Initiated by Prof Vivien KU of Novel Hall, Taiwan, Works for Pao Kun – Legend Alive will see the directors coming together to pay a living tribute to the man who continues to be an inspiration to many.

The directors are:

 - Prof Stan LAI (Taiwan)

 - Mr Danny YUNG (Hongkong)

 - Mr Hardy TSOI (Hongkong)

 - Prof Krishen JIT (Malaysia)

 - Mr LIN Ke-Huan (Beijing, China)

 - Mr XIONG Yuan-wei (Shenzhen, China)

They will each present an original new work inspired by Mr KUO or his works, or thoughts or themes conjured in association with him.

Hailed as Theatre Doyen of Singapore, Mr KUO was respected as one of the most influencing and far-sighted dramatist in the region, and his works have been internationally recognised and performed widely. His passing away on 10 September 2002 has caused great grief to the local art community and many foreign artists who had known him or worked with him closely before.

Presented by Practice Performing Arts Centre Ltd and co-presented by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Works for Pao Kun - Legend Alivewill be held from 13 to 15 December 2002 at The Esplanade Theatre Studio. It also coincides with the memorial service of Mr KUO’s 100th day of passing, which falls on 18 Dec 2002.

The event will be a most appropriate way to remember Mr KUO and his perseverance in his arts, his sensitivity to the society, and his generosity to all the people he has come into contact with. It is hoped that more people will carry on his spirit in the pursuit of ideals in arts and life.
