Mdm Kang's Kitchen Chilli Crab

  The biennial National Chinese Music Competition aims to develop the performing skills of musicians and to identify potential music talents. It provides opportunities for young musicians to perform in a competitive situation before an international jury.

  Sections:

  There are two sections: Solo and Ensemble

  The solo section comprises six instruments, Erhu, Guzheng, Dizi, Pipa, Yangqin and Zhongruan.

  Age Categories:

  Solo                                       Ensemble

Junior            13 yrs & below     Junior

Intermediate   18 yrs & below     Intermediate

Senior            35 yrs & below     -

Open (Erhu)    no age limit         Open

  Stages of Competition

  - Preliminary

  - Final

  The Competition is open to the public. Admission is free.

  Venue of Competition

  Recital Studio, Esplanade

  Awards

  Winners stand to win cash prizes ranging from S$200 to S$400, as well as performing opportunities with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra.

Prize Winners' Concert & Prize Presentation Ceremony

  Top prize winners will get the opportunity to perform at the Prize Winners' Concert on 12 Dec 2002 at the Singapore Conference Hall. The concert will also feature special guest performances by the adjudicators of the competition.

  Concert tickets at S$10 will be available at the National Arts Council from November 2002 and at the competition venue during the competition.

  Masterclasses

  Selected participants will perform in masterclasses conducted by the adjudicators of the competition on 11 Dec 2002. Masterclasses are open to observers at S$5 per person. More details will be available from October 2002.

  Applications

  The Competition, which is organised by the National Arts Council, is open to Singapore citizens and permanent residents. Registration booklets are available at the following venues:

 - National Arts Council, Singapore Conference Hall

 - Victoria Concert Hall, Victoria Theatre, Kallang Theatre

 - Drama Centre (until June 2002)
