Monday with the Editor: A case of car vandalism

     Back to FrontPage

Yes! That's what it actually was - a case of vandalism. I was at fault for parking in the middle of the movable ramp so much so that another chap could not park on the other half. But, did she (lady's handwriting) have to resort to vandalism? I should say, in mitigation, that I hadn't owned a car in the past seven years so I hadn't the opportunity to drive in that period of time and now that I was able to drive again after such a long time - I hadn't seen nor used such movable ramp contraptions before. Perhaps, that lady didn't know that. But, that is beside the point. An educated person (she used perfect English in her note) should know the difference between right and wrong.

I realised that there could be closed-circuit TV monitors around the area where I had parked as it was just in front of the lift lobby. I ventured to say to my wife that I would seek redress. But, my wife told me to let the matter rest. My wife is the sort who would rather avoid trouble than confront it. She said the vandal would get her just desserts one day and, to keep the peace, I reluctantly agreed with her suggestion.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction - so the saying goes. I made a mistake, and somebody reacted. But, before I could do anything in response to that reaction, I was neutralised by my other half. So the cycle doesn't carry on in this particular case, which is a good thing altogether. That said, the only relief I get is letting off some steam by writing about the incident here today.

Hope today you have learnt something through my mistake.
