Asia's success in shifting towards the new Internet economy will depend on government deregulation and bottom-up initiatives, said SM Lee Kuan Yew at the Singapore Techventure Conference 2000 in San Francisco. Asian governments had been embracing the new technology, with Singapore, Malaysia and Hongkong leading the way with the most pro-active and ambitious plans, he noted.
